Published Jul 16, 2020Following last year's full-length release, Spectre, Vancouver-based Black Mountain offshoot Lightning Dust have returned with plans for a new EP. Titled Material Life, the two-track release will arrive Western Vinyl will arrive on July 23.
Ahead of its release, the group — formed by Amber Webber and Joshua Wells, now joined by live band member Rob Butterfield and collaborator Matthew Skillings — have shared the EP's title track. The song was born out of a need for fun setlist entries on the band's recent European tour and was inspired by the chaos of the road.
"It came up after a summer of shroom doom and confusion; addressing the moments in life when you've lost the plot, have no clue which direction is up, or how you got to where you landed," Webber explained of the track. "I wanted to write a song that'd be fun to play at festivals and easy to mess around with and change up live. Something the wild hearts could boogie to."
Meanwhile, the record's second track "Busted Minds" takes the form of a breakup song. Both songs were recorded pre-pandemic off the floor of a literal garage studio.
