Amy Winehouse to Get Biopic Treatment; Noomi Rapace in Talks to Star
Published Nov 05, 2015Amy Winehouse's tragic life story was recently turned into an acclaimed documentary called Amy. Next, it's being made into a biopic.
Ireland's Kristen Sheridan (August Rush, In America, Disco Pigs) is writing and directing the feature. Swedish actress Noomi Rapace (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Prometheus) is in talks to play the starring role. Production comes from Subotica Films and City Entertainment.
Music rights haven't yet been secured, but talks with Winehouse's father Mitch are underway. Winehouse's family were originally on board with the Amy documentary, but they eventually disassociated themselves from the project and called it "misleading." Mitch has even said that he intends to make his own documentary.
Screen Daily reports that the biopic is currently called Amy Winehouse, but this is only a working title so it might get changed.
Meanwhile, the soundtrack for Amy is set to arrive on October 30 through Island, while Winehouse's catalogue is due to be released in a vinyl box on December 11 through Island/Republic/UMe.
Winehouse died of alcohol poisoning in 2011 at the age of 27. She had suffered through a long battle with drugs, alcohol and bulimia.
