Published Oct 18, 2013Ohio lo-fi greats Guided By Voices recorded classic albums like Bee Thousand and Alien Lanes on famously shoestring budgets, but it's going to cost one lucky fan a massive chunk of change if they want to pick up drummer Kevin Fennell's drum kit in an eBay auction. The asking price? A mighty $55,000.
The listing for the Eames custom 12-ply drum kit reveals that quite a lot of history was made on it, having been used to record 1994's Bee Thousand, 1995's Alien Lanes, 1996's Under the Bushes Under the Stars, and 1997's Mag Earwig, as well as more recent offerings Let's go Eat the Factory, Class Clown Spots a UFO, English Little League, and Bears For Lunch. Additionally, the drum set has endured three U.S. and three European tours, and are "simply good looking."
Whether or not any devoted hot freak will take the bait remains to be seen, with a bid yet to be made on the kit. If you're interested, you can read up on all the details over here. The auction ends October 24.
As previously reported, Guided By Voices' next LP, Motivational Jumpsuit lands sometime in February through the band's own GBV Inc. imprint.
