Mayhem Festival Tour to Return in 2020
"Don't call it a comeback"
Published Dec 02, 2019Five years after its organizers called it a day, the touring Mayhem Festival will be revived to return to action in 2020.
The festival's official Instagram page broke the news today by sharing a picture of Sylvester Stallone as Rocky Balboa, writing in the caption, "Don't call it a comeback #mayhem2020."
The bio section of the festival's profile also reads, "hindsight is 2020.. and so is the return of mayhem."
Mayhem Festival was co-founded by Vans Warped Tour's Kevin Lyman and John Reese. The touring bills would occasionally make stops in Toronto or Montreal during the event's initial run from 2008 to 2015.
Following a 2015 edition that included Slayer, King Diamond, Hellyeah and more, the festival shut down.
In an interview during the tour, Lyman suggested that the event was on its last legs due to slow ticket sales and a dearth of headline-worthy acts due to heavy metal becoming "gray, bald and fat."
Slayer guitarist Kerry King called Lyman's comments "a very generalizing statement and it basically throws his tour under the bus. That's just…that's not even Business 101. That's just insane."
Bands set to be involved in Mayhem Festival's 2020 edition have yet to be revealed.
