Published Jun 05, 2014Following a five-year drought, Floridian death metal icons Obituary have announced that they're finally ready to release a new LP. A due date is still up for debate, but the as-yet-untitled album will delivered through new label home Relapse Records.
News of the band's ninth full-length arrived in a press release, where it was confirmed that the band are currently working on the final mixes. The LP was tracked at the group's own RedNeck Studio in Gibsonton, FL, this past April following a few years of prep work and was funded by a Kickstarter campaign. While track details have yet to be delivered, a statement from the group asserts that "we really hit the 'metal nail' on the head with this album."
They continued: "We have been writing and working on the new material for nearly three years now and we could not be more excited how these songs have all turned out. All the stars seem to have aligned for us and this release, with the songs, production and overall feel of this record, the band is more solid than ever."
The album will be Obituary's first since 2009's Darkest Day, which was delivered via Candlelight Records. At the time, Exclaim! noted that the set "displays the tried and true Obituary formula: pummelling drums, brutal vocals, heavy riffs and melodic guitar solos."
For now, Obituary have a pile of European dates, and you can see all those over here.
