SZA, Mount Eerie and Austra Lead This Week's Can't Miss Concerts

While this summer may have been your last chance to experience WayHome, you can ease the pain by checking out one of Canada's many fall festivals. For example, in this week's Can't Miss Concerts alone (from September 14 to 20), POP Montreal, Rifflandia and Westward Music Fest will all take place, and will feature performances from A Tribe Called Red, July Talk, Vince Staples and more.

It may feel like a lifetime has passed since Toronto electro-outfit Austra dropped their latest record Future Politics and sold out the Mod Club back in January, but they have yet to slow down since. Fronted by the captivating Katie Stelmanis, the group's shows are an otherworldly experience. Find out for yourself at one of the band's slew of Canadian fall tour dates, which kick off September 14 with a POP Montreal showcase performance.

Melina Duterte, better known by her Jay Som moniker, has had an incredibly successful year. She released her beautifully intricate debut record, Everybody Works, in March via Polyvinyl and is set to support Alvvays on select U.S. tour dates next month. The 22-year-old will spend some time in Canada beforehand, performing at Toronto's Horseshoe Tavern and a POP Montreal showcase alongside Stef Chura and Soccer Mommy.

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of Ingénue, k.d. lang's breakthrough record, the singer-songwriter has been on the road for the "Ingénue Redux Canadian Tour" since mid-August. The shows have also seen lang performing tracks from Hymns of the 49th Parallel, her 2004 record that featured lang's takes on songs by fellow Canadian greats. This last leg of the tour will take her from St. John's to Ottawa, where her first of two shows includes a performance by the NAC Orchestra, before wrapping up in Hamilton.

Phil Elverum released one of the most devastating albums of the year (and of his career) with Mount Eerie's A Crow Looked at Me, and will spend September performing intimate solo shows across Canada and the U.S. in support of it. If his Vancouver set last month was any indicator, audiences are in for a truly emotional experience. Elverum will play POP Montreal and Ottawa before bringing things to a close in Toronto this week.

Celebrating its sweet 16 this year, five-day, citywide festival POP Montréal returns with over 400 acts including Ty Segall, Lido Pimienta, Blanck Mass, Jessy Lanza and more. Taking place at venues across the city, showgoers can also attend film screenings, fashion shows and art exhibitions to fully immerse themselves in the cultural event.

The tenth annual Rifflandia festival will see an array of talented musicians take to venue stages across the city's historic downtown stretch from Thursday (September 14) to Sunday (September 17). Canadian acts Hannah Georgas, Yukon Blonde, Charlotte Day Wilson, Said the Whale and more are set to perform alongside international artists like Bonobo, Hot Chip and Moby.

R&B singer SZA's highly anticipated major label debut, Ctrl, dropped back in June, and she's been riding high ever since. After pleasing Toronto audiences last month, SZA will return to Canadian soil for a sold-out stint in Vancouver with Smino and Ravyn Lenae.

Westward Music Fest
Westward Music Fest's inaugural edition will hit Vancouver this week, and their stacked lineup will make it one to remember. A diverse range of talent including the likes of PUP, Bishop Briggs, Vince Staples and more will take to venue stages with a two-day outdoor event happening in the back lot of Red Truck Brewery.
